We are excited to welcome back our students and staff tomorrow, April 8th.
As we prepare for the upcoming solar eclipse tomorrow, we want to emphasize the importance of safety during this rare and exciting event. While observing a solar eclipse can be a memorable experience, it's crucial to take precautions to protect your eyes and ensure your safety.
Our area will be experiencing a partial solar eclipse, with maximum eclipse at 3:23 PM. At this time, approximately 86% of the sun will be obscured by the moon. For more information about this, please see the links below:

We have made preparations to ensure student safety during the eclipse. As this event occurs during our elementary school day, students will be participating in learning activities related to the eclipse and our staff will reinforce the importance of protecting their eyes. Students will be limited to indoor activities after 2:00 PM, with the exception of dismissal. The only students permitted to be outdoors during the event will be classes that have made preparations and have the appropriate viewing devices.
Changes have also been made to our athletic events at the secondary level so they do not coincide with the maximum eclipse event. As the Child Family Center, Millville High School, Lakeside Middle School, and the Thunderbolt Academy will dismiss prior to 3:23 PM, we ask you to reinforce eclipse safety measures with your children.
Some important safety tips to keep in mind:
- Do Not Look Directly at the Sun: Looking directly at the sun, even during an eclipse, can cause serious eye damage or even blindness. It's essential to never look directly at the sun without proper eye protection.
- Use Certified Solar Viewing Glasses: If you plan to observe the eclipse, make sure to use solar viewing glasses that are certified for safe solar viewing. These glasses are specially designed to filter out harmful ultraviolet and infrared radiation.
- Alternative Viewing Methods: If you prefer not to observe the eclipse directly, consider using alternative viewing methods such as pinhole projectors, solar filters for telescopes/binoculars, or live streams of the eclipse.
By following these safety guidelines, you can enjoy the solar eclipse safely and responsibly. We encourage you to take this opportunity to learn more about eclipses and marvel at the wonders of the universe while prioritizing your safety.
